Meditation Dump #1
Hey there, subscribers!
While my intention for subscriptions is not to keep inundating you with more content (Lord knows content overload is one of my greatest weaknesses), I figured sharing some meditations would be a great way to offer something more personal and impactful.
I’ll be sharing at the bottom what my plans are for paid subscriptions, and you’ll be able to vote on what you’d be interested in! For now, here are some meditative thoughts.
Meditation 1 —
Blessed are those ordinary days where a man learns he is not much more than what he has chosen.
He is stretched in the mundane.
He is galvanized by commitment.
But there comes a time in every man’s life where he is called to transfiguration; to be the place where Heaven meets Earth for the next generation;
To give up his life so that God can open the eyes of the blind.
It is there that he becomes his destiny.
Meditation 2 —
Prayer isn’t what the world makes it out to be; Prayer is what God makes of it.
I’m not speaking to a ghost; I’m trusting the promise of Jesus.
I’m not beckoning to the gods; I’m asking my Father.
I’m not doing Christian yoga; I’m submitting myself to the Lord.
I’m not waiting around for positive emotions; I’m waiting on Him to liberate my heart.
I’m not looking for perfect moments; I’m learning to share every moment with God.
I’m not losing my identity; I’m dying so that I can rise.
I’m not getting what I think I want; I’m getting what He knows I need.
Meditation 3 —
God yearns for your love.
He wants you to belong to Him fully.
He wants to hear you say, “Lord, I love the way you love me.”
He wants us to enjoy him in accordance with how much he enjoys us.
He doesn’t need you. He’s not desperate for you.
He is jealous for you.
So follow Jesus. Let him set you free to grow into who you were made to be — not just someone who is called a daughter or son of God, but someone who actually shows up for dinner, who celebrates with the whole family, who learns to enjoy spending time with our Father.
Meditation 4 —
To believe that my Father knows best is to submit to scars.
To bow to his will is to drink a bitter cup.
Like trying something new, we have to open our mouth and taste and see what good can come of the discoveries contained within suffering.
If endurance produces character, then drinking this cup is how we become ourselves.
So what do we do with all the hardship in our lives?
We decide to become what we are.
We choose to be children of our Father.
Do any specific thoughts or ideas stick out to you? Take them to God in prayer.
Thanks for reading! I hope a line or two stuck out to you and will help your prayers be a touch more vibrant today.
As I mentioned above, I need to lay out my intentions for subscriber content. A few ideas have come to mind — let me know what you think!
Personal, “unlimited characters” Q&A — A lot of Q&As out in content land only do flyover responses and don’t really try to dive into a person’s life and the books/podcasts they’re taking in. I’d like to do mine differently. My hope would be that any subscriber could send any inquiry in, no matter how personal, nuanced, or convoluted, and I would like to dive as deeply into their question as I possibly can. I will post my response for subscribers in hopes that it edifies everyone!
Guidebooks — I have many thoughts on different theological and practical topics (prayer, predestination, baptism, etc). With enough time, I really believe I could develop them into very small guidebooks that could help orient someone toward a fully-orbed view on these things while coming to their own conclusions.
Book Club — I have a stack of books that I think are actually good. I know, that’s pretentious to say, but these are books that have actually made a deep impact in my life. I’d love to share them with you all.
A Creative/Stylistic Devotional — Inspired by the song Boy Like Me/Man Like You by Rich Mullins, I want to write a devotional walking through the Gospels of Luke and John one day at a time. I would send this two days a week; just my own thoughts about what it would have been like to spend that day with Jesus and how that would affect our lives today.
Here are a few polls to respond to:
